AHLA members are invited to submit an application expressing interest in being appointed to a leadership position. The application submission deadline is December15, 2020. The work of the program planning committees is tied to the timing of the program. Committees begin work approximately six months prior to the program.
Because there is so much interest in serving, a member is typically appointed to one position at a time. Terms are often staggered for members serving on the various leadership bodies to prevent everyone rotating off at the same time. As a result, the number of available openings on the committee may vary from program to program. Appointments are for a two-year term with eligibility for reappointment for an additional term.
The purpose of the program planning committees is to review proposals submitted in response to the Call for Speakers and make topic and speaker selections. Planning committee members also contact potential speakers and provide them with guidance on preparing written materials and oral presentations. Additionally, committee members advise and assist the AHLA in promoting the program to members and non‐members and identifying sponsoring organizations.
Prior to being appointed to the committee, members of a program planning committee have typically spoken at and attended the program so that they are familiar with the content and the audience.
